Old and unique boxtrees

History

These Boxwoods have a very unique history, wich begins in 1779 on the estate of Holsteinborg located on the southern Sealand, Denmark.

In the month of april 1779 they were planted as a signature hedge in the park on the west side of main building.

New life

Because of park reconstruction in 2001 they we relocated and replanted them in the rich soil of the island of Fyn near Little Belt and continue to care for these old treasures. They are no longer part of a hedge but single plants that each shows 240 years of history. The New Carlsberg Foundation assessed the boxwoods from Holsteinborg worthy of preservation and supported the relocation process.

Our main focus in the shaping of the plants have been to support the individual organic shapes and the expression of what 240 years of growth looks like.
